Study in Germany: a complete step-by-step guide

Study in Germany: a complete step-by-step guide

Germany offers world-class education, globally recognised degrees, affordable tuition at many public universities and excellent career opportunities. Whether you're planning a Bachelor's, Master's or PhD, here's how we guide you through every stage.

Why study in Germany?

  • ✓Globally recognised universities
  • ✓Affordable or low-cost tuition at many public universities
  • ✓High-quality education and research
  • ✓English-taught and German-taught programmes
  • ✓Excellent employment opportunities after graduation
  • ✓Safe, multicultural and central to Europe

Germany’s main intakes

The Winter intake (October) is the largest: applications usually open March–May, with most deadlines May–July. The Summer intake (April) has fewer programmes; applications usually run November–January. Deadlines vary, so start planning several months ahead.

Plan, choose, check requirements

Book a free consultation to map your course, budget, career goals and scholarship options. We then compare universities (Germany has over 400) by ranking, fees, location, entry requirements and language of instruction.

  • ✓Academic certificates and official transcripts
  • ✓Valid passport and CV
  • ✓Statement of Purpose (motivation letter)
  • ✓Language certificate: IELTS or TOEFL for English; TestDaF, DSH or Goethe for German
  • ✓Recommendation letters (some programmes)

Apply and receive your admission

Applications go through each university’s portal or through Uni-Assist. We make sure yours is complete and submitted before the deadline. Your admission letter is then needed for your visa, accommodation, enrolment and financial preparation.

Blocked account, insurance and visa

Most students must prove they can support themselves through a blocked account (Sperrkonto), released monthly after arrival. Health insurance is mandatory. We guide you through choosing providers and review every visa document before submission.

Accommodation, departure and arrival

Options include student residences, shared apartments (WG), private apartments and homestays. Our pre-departure briefing covers travel, documents, banking, insurance and cultural adaptation. After arrival you’ll register your address, enrol and get your student ID, and we’re still here for questions.

Scholarships

  • ✓DAAD Scholarships
  • ✓Deutschlandstipendium
  • ✓Erasmus+ (where applicable)
  • ✓University-specific scholarships
  • ✓Private foundations
